The UN Safety Council held an emergency assembly Wednesday night on the request of Ukraine after Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a “particular navy operation” in japanese Ukraine, telling the West to not intervene in what gave the impression to be the start of conflict in Europe.
Putin stated in an early televised speech Thursday the motion was in response to threats coming from Ukraine, but insisted Russia doesn’t have a purpose to occupy the nation.
U.N. Secretary-Normal Antonio Guterres urged Putin to “give peace an opportunity” and cease troops from coming into Ukraine.
Russia’s U.N. ambassador Vassily Nebenzia later confirmed the operation in Donbas on the assembly, however admitted he didn’t have all the main points on what was unfolding. He insisted, nonetheless, that navy motion was meant to finish years of battle within the area.
Ukraine’s ambassador Sergiy Kyslytsya confronted Nebenzia and the remainder of the council, calling on the U.N. to “cease the conflict.”
