Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland confronted an indignant Canadian Home of Commons Thursday as opposition MPs continued to demand solutions relating to the federal government’s unprecedented invocation of the Emergencies Act.
The federal government has justified using the Emergencies Act by arguing that the blockades are an emergency, and by claiming that these concerned have vowed to push again at efforts to clear them with plans that officers imagine may embody “severe violence” for “a political or ideological goal.”
The prime minister pointed to the dismantling of the Coutts border blockade in southern Alberta earlier this week, the place RCMP made 13 arrests and seized a cache of firearms and ammunition from demonstrators, for example of latest success in dismantling the protests.
Critics have referred to as the transfer a harmful and unprecedented overreach of presidency energy and authority.
